Jesse Welles Review
Jesse Welles is a folk rock artist, and he has sparked quite the buzz in these Post-Covid Times. Most known for his insanely perceptive Protest Anthems, he also stays very prolific, pumping out what seems like several songs a week about each current event.
So, I’ve been listening, and to be fair, I have to start this off stating that I think he is a fantastic songwriter. The melodies weaved over the chords chosen are super satisfying. His voice has grit yet is well controlled, and whichever side of the aisle you lay, you must appreciate the heart required to gradually get conservatives boppin’ along to Protest tunes.
“War Isn’t Murder” is my favorite tune laying it bare — “The dead don’t feel honor, they don’t feel that brave, they don’t feel avenged, they’re lucky if they have graves.”
Though political music normally causes me to scrunch my face in skepticism, it’s ultimately from my purist heart, saying,
“I thought this space was exempt.”
Jesse Welles’ music says, “Not only is it not exempt… But I am also a purist”.
